A much sought after French made horn is by Strasser Marigaux & Lemaire, usually refered to by the initials SML. Unlike most french saxes it had rolled tone holes and many other clever and usefull improvements ( 22 to be exact, according to SML 40's lit.) To learn more about SML saxes, follow this link http://www.saxophone.org/sml.html to Fred Cicetti's article at the International Saxophone Home Page. Most likely a predecessor to the Gold Medal series, my theory is it is a transitional model as it has mostof the design features of the Gold Medal model. the sax has rolled tone holes the same G# table, but not the locking G# key or adjusting screws found in the later "Gold Medal" models. "German" silver plated, about 90% of the plating remaining on the body, but the neck looks like it was replated. The areas of plating wear are at the bottom of the sax, the palm keys and side Bb and around the thumb rest. Typical wear in various places around the sax. The bow has had some dents expertly removed. SML’s are rare horns especially plated instead of lacquered ones. The bell has the logo SML & Super 46 Mechanically the horn and neck are in excellent shape. It was overhauled including a repad with thin flat metal reso pads and recork 1 ½ years ago, the pads are like new. Other than the dent work done on the bottom of the horn, that is all I see in terms of dents or damage. A couple friends here in town have them and swear by them over any other brand, they have a great big 10M type sound. 1999.00 Includes a nice Protec case. I just noticed a similar SML at wichita band for 2495.00. SOLD
