SUMMARY OF THIS FAQ PAGE: ask before you use In July 2002, I started
putting a copyright warning at the bottom of each of my website pages:
The reason for this inclusion is that a variety of websites and eBay ads have been copying large portions of this website without my knowledge or permission. As you know from reading this FAQ, most of the pictures and some of the commentary listed here are donated from other folks -- and may be copyrighted by them, not me. I have listed "fair use" rules of this website on this FAQ page since 1998. No one's been reading, it seems. Well, I'm now taking a more agressive stance. Read below. Additional Information: Q. Great pics/info. Can I use 'em on my website? A. The answer is more complicated than you'd think. The answer is yes, g'head and use the pics that have www.ebay.com listed next to them. Please place a link to this site and to eBay if you do. The pics from some places, like vintagesax.com, are copyrighted and I have permission to use them. My reader contributions may be copyrighted and the contributors have given me permission to use them as well. Other places I've gotten pics from may or may not be copyrighted and/or I just have a link to that pic -- nothing on the server. The reason I ask for a link back to my site per pic, even for stuff I find on eBay, is because I've put an awful lot of time into searching for the pics and researching the data herin, so I feel I deserve SOME credit for my work. As far as information is concerned, please e-mail me before using it. Research take a lot of time AND I sometimes use quotes from other sources, with permission -- you may not have that permission. DO NOT use this website/directories/files as your personal photo gallery for your website. I will find out who you are and ask you to remove your links. Jason DuMars at saxophone.org is the only person that's currently allowed to link to this 'site as his website's photo gallery and he's given me full credit. Q. Hey! The pic of that sax on your site is copyrighted. Will you please remove it? A. Definitely. I'd, of course, like to make friendly arrangements with you to keep the pics. If you find something on this site that's copyrighted and shouldn't be here, please drop me a line and it'll be removed within 24hrs., if at all possible. Q. Can I quote you for an eBay ad or book report/essay/dissertation? A. I've never had a problem for book reports/essays/dissertation. Please go ahead and quote from me. If you need any clarification or updates, I'll be happy to try to help. Please do note the above information about copyright, if you're planning on using pictures. Ask if you have questions. The standard footnote format for quoting from a webpage is in the form of: Source: Internet: The Vintage Saxophone Gallery (www.saxpics.com), by Peter Hales. Link: (specific page that's quoted from) I do have a problem with people quoting me OUT OF CONTEXT and/or designing an eBay ad in such a way as to imply that I or another dealer is selling the horn. If you are going to quote me for an eBay ad and you are going to quote me out of context, you will get negative feedback entered and I may post a notice to the various saxophone forums or mailing lists.
