The most important thing that I'm working on is the DATABASE PROJECT. This project was orignally an outgrowth of my unfinished "French Saxophones Compared" article, and then was modified when my webhost, Mark Bushaw, had suggested that I database-ize my entire website and then solidified when another reader of this website, Schorsch, told me of a project he was working on: an Excel spreadsheet comparing serial number ranges and models of a variety of saxophones.

Anyhow, what this Access database will do is list:

* A date range of various saxophones (currently 1888 to 1995)
* A serial number range for each saxophone manufacturer produced that year
* The pro models produced by each manufacturer that year and links to appropriate web pages here and/or pictures
* A listing of all applicable saxophone patents of that year, with links to original patent documents
* A listing of all design changes for each model for that year or serial number range
* A listing of additional company information/errata for that year

The purpose of this DB is to have all of the horns produced for a specific year or date range in front of you so you can compare them. You wanna find out which model horn was the most elaborate for 1914? It's there, dude.

I'm first going to be working on American-made saxophones, but I will extend this to French-made and other European horns in the future once all the other bugs are straightened out.

If you'd like to contribute to this project or have a request, please drop me a line. A current sample of my "do everything" database is available HERE. My picture database, containing pictures of 2200 different horns, is available HERE.
