I am selling many of the Saxophones from my personal collection.Collectors take note. This rare silver plated sax was manufactured for Pierre Hannsen by Julius Kielworth- the JK is clearly stamped in the neck receiver (the photo is blurred but the JK can be recognized). The Serial number is 25010. My guess is that is was built in the late 30’s because it has the optional G# key on the lower stack and has many features common to horn of that vintage. This is a fascinating instrument with beautiful art deco engraving on the bell which is highlighted with a two tone finish which carries over to other parts of the horn: around the upper bell, the bow contact points, as well as the neck receiver. It also has rolled tone holes with bell keys on the right side. The neck has the Conn tunable neck- I have no idea if it works, but it looks neat and it has the Chu nailfile G#. The octave key has a cigar cutter type linkage (minus the hole). It is very playable, but you may want to replace some of the pads. It has a very vintage look with about 50% of the original plating remaining and has the original neck plug, the only thing that is not original is the screw to tighten the neck. Unlike contemporary Keilworths, this instrument has a smaller diameter bell, seems more refined in its sound, and has more resistance. The action is significantly lighter than Keilworths but good for a horn of this age. I am not a big fan of Selmers because I like bigger bore horns, but to me, it plays more like a Selmer than my Coufs. It is a unique vintage instrument in very good condition, with only a few minor dings in the usual places. One post had to be soldered on in its restoration. The octave key on the neck was evidently broken at one time and the work, though solid, is clearly evident on examination. The case is original, suitable for storage but lacks a handle. Key clamps are included. My reserve price is $800. Payment is by Money Order or Western Union Only – sorry no personal checks. Shipping by UPS Ground will be $45.00 anywhere in the USA. If you chose to use an escrow service, it will be at the buyers expense.
