Keilwerth Modell Peter Ponzol
Hi,
This is Peter Ponzol and I want to
correct some information on your Keilwerth web site. The Modell Peter Ponzol was
made from 1986 until I left the company in 1993, not for three years as
your site states. When I joined Keilwerth as consultant and designer in 1985
(after having worked for Buffet for three years), I convinced Keilwerth to stop
making stencil instruments and to build a reputation for the Keilwerth name by
making only Keilwerth instruments. My model was the top of the line and was the
last to have real rolled tone holes. These instruments are much sought after in
Europe. My model had a different neck which was chosen by me to match each
saxophone, and I personally went in the factory every week to test every Ponzol
saxophone. It was on my model that the following were developed:
adjustable palm keys, right hand F arm bridge with adjusting screw and the G#
lever which prevents sticking of the G# key. Also the few Keilwerh copper horns
made were all Ponzol models.
By the way, since Graslitz was in
the Sudentland technically all Keilwerth horns were made in Germany. This
area belonged to Germany until the end of World War 2 when Keilwerth moved to
Nauheim, W. Germany along with the Winter and Schreiber families.
Hope this clears up some of your
information, please contact me if you have any questions about my involvement in
any of these companies.
Best regards,
Peter Ponzol
