This is a great sax!! It's a 1947 vintage King Super 20
alto with custom scratch brush gold plate finish. It has the
early full pearl inlay on all touch pieces. It has sun burst
engraving on the low Bb, B, C, and C# pad cups. It has the
triple strap hook and original stamped sterling silver double
socket neck. This is the best vintage of sax that King ever
made, original made popular by the great Cannonball
Adderley.
The sax was original lacquer before the plate job and has
never been buffed as it was hand rag preped. Under the gold
plate is a double layer of silver plate. It's as fine a finsh
as you'll ever see and much care was taken in the preperation
work. The scratch brush gold plate finish has a great
look!!!
The sax was custom engraved with a "playboy centerfold"
nude by the late master engraver Lyn Osborne as can be seen in
the photos. His craftmanship is superb. The sax has all new
Prestini NS pads fitted with a set of sterling silver Reso
Tech flat metal resonators. The instrument is set up with a
nice open key height and is professionally regulated. It's in
top playing form!!
The sound is just killer! The instrument really screams.
This would make the perfect lead alto because it has as much
projection as I've ever seen for an alto. The intonation is
also quite respectable and the sound in no way thins out in
the top range. The altisimo speaks very clearly on this
sax.
