Description

This hard to find, HANDCRAFTED, PARIS made SML GOLD MEDAL ALTO SAXOPHONE is ready to be played. It has pearl keys and is BEAUTIFULLY engraved with a pattern most resembling the SELMER MARK VI's of the 60's with exception of having some of the engraving reaching inside the bell. This is probably due to this being the French rival to those Marks VI's of that time period. On the outside of the bell, it reads "SML, GOLD MEDAL, STRASSER MARIGAUX,  144.146.Boul_delaVILLETTE, PARIS, FRANCE." It seems to me that this saxophone has not had any substantial work done to it. It has a few,  probably original, medal tone boosters. Recently, it was regulated, had a pad changed and replaced the neck cork. The only apparent repair done previously was very minor. The ring where the sax strap clips onto the horn was reversed. You can see that there was some work done there, but it is very strong and does not affect the sound of the horn at all. The neck is original and is in good shape. On one side of the the pivot screw, it is very slightly pushed in but works fine. This saxophone, most definitely needs to be played on a regular basis. Instruments nowadays are not built like these anymore. Even with the most expensive horns built today, they do not contain materials like the ones used on this horn. With the dense weight of this saxophone and a big bell, you are sure to have a rich, huge, beautiful tone like no other. If this instrument was good enough for saxophonists such as the great BENNIE CARTER & COLEMAN HAWKINS and CARMINE LEGGIO from the BENNY GOODMAN, MAYNARD FERGUSON and the BUDDY RICH band, than is sure can be good enough for anyone to play. With it's original, beautifully maintained, well built safe and solid case with red plush lining, this instrument is the one for you. Happy Bidding. Will ship anywhere in the U.S.A.  UPS Ground  or Fedex Ground lower 48 States is fixed rate of 20.00.  No international sales.  Contact within 3 days and payment within 10 days.
